Brand Name Drugs Added
to Save-A-Copay™ Program

Brand name antidepressants Lexapro and Paxil CR have just been added to Aetna’s Save-A-Copay™ Program. The program was designed to help you save money by switching to certain preferred generic equivalent medications, but now there are a number of brand name drugs approved for use with this program.

HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS:

  • If you switch to certain preferred generic medications from selected brand-name drugs, you will make no copayment for 6 months or six refills, whichever comes first!
  • At the end of the initial 6-month period or six refills, you will be responsible for paying the lowest applicable copay outlined in your pharmacy benefits plan.
  • There is no enrollment process. If you are identified as currently taking one of the eligible program medications, you will be mailed up to three letters within a rolling calendar year: an introductory letter and two follow-up letters regarding the program.

Eligible medications include: Lipitor (10, 20, 40 mg), Vytorin 10/10, Crestor 5 mg, Lexapro, and Paxil CR. This program is available on prescriptions filled at participating retail and mail-order pharmacies. To view a complete list of generic preferred alternative drugs, please click here (www.aetna.com/formulary) to view Aetna’s Preferred drug List.

Note: Decisions regarding your care are your responsibility and that of your doctor. We encourage you to discuss your options with your doctor to determine if you are eligible for this generic alternative. With your doctor’s approval, take a new prescription to the pharmacy of your choice and start saving with a cost effective generic medication.
